We build an “Ecosystem of Access & Education” through programmatic initiatives which focus on education, mentorships, college guidance, industry exposure, parental education, and internship placement.
Our Programs Teach Computer Science In A Unique, Project-Based Way
Our flagship Summer Institute consists of programming labs, interactions with leading professionals, field trips, and leadership skills development.
Our year-long program consists of workshops, student-centered activities, summer instruction, and other components that include talks, demos, and talks led by inspiring entrepreneurs, CEOs, developers, designers, and computer science majors.
Mentors are key. Tech professionals serve as mentors and role models throughout the program, each aligned with All Star Code’s mission. Ongoing interactions with professionals in the local tech community serve to dispel misconceptions about computer scientists and the environments in which they work.
Education: Where The Journey Begins
All Star Code conducts 3 introductory workshops in the Fall/Winter of each year. These workshops are aimed at recruiting more than 100 All Star applicants who are excited about careers in coding, technology, Computer Science, programming, engineering and gaming. Our best-of-class instructors use experiential, applied, and project-based learning techniques to give our students a sense of the excitement and possibilities that await them in a career in technology.
Year-Round Student-Centered Activities
ASC encourages new recruitment and continuing engagement by organizing student participation in sponsored events, which expose them to technology professionals through interviews, Meetups, and Hackathons. We also provide online forums and discussion group platforms for students to share insights and learning together as highly engaged peers.
All Star Code’s Summer Intensive is an experience-based model that represents an innovative approach to Computer Science, programming education, and youth development. Each summer, ASC offers an elite 6-week Summer Intensive designed to educate, inspire, and equip high school boys of color with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to pursue paths leading to academics and/or careers in the technology and engineering sectors. Field trips to technology company offices afford young men the opportunity to envision a career pathway as they network with professionals on-site.
Of our many qualified applicants, All Star Code selects 40 smart, talented and driven rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors to participate from 9am – 5pm each weekday during the program. Here, these young men receive hands-on, project-based instruction in computing concepts, programming fundamentals, mobile phone development, robotics, web development, and design. Our curriculum allows our All Stars to build applications and innovative solutions that further their interest and mastery of core Computer Science concepts. We provide 200+ hours of intensive instruction with high-touch mentorship and exposure, led by mission-aligned engineers and entrepreneurs in the tech industry.
Student alumni receive ongoing mentorship and networking with leading technology companies (established and startups) over the course of 4-5 years as they make choices about what to study, where to do it, what sort of summer internship programs to aim for, and so on.
Our alumni also receive practical advice about college choices and admissions preparations.
We provide parents with information to help them better understand the technology industry, occupations in this field, and how their child can be best prepare for a career.
We work with high tech companies to establish internship placements for workshop alums during the summer following the Summer Institute. Students will be assigned to internships in pairs.
